Artist Statement

I believe art has the power to change the world.

By exposing people to world views different from their own in real and visceral ways, we can open the minds of our communities. We will therefore be more empathetic towards others and further connected to our own humanity.

Within my artistry you will find traces of the places that have touched my life and an attempt to find the aspects of the human experience that intrinsically connect us.

I am a Third Culture Kid (TCK)*.

At 5 years old, my family moved from our home in the Pacific Northwest to an Italian town called: Vicenza. This event irrevocably changed the course of my life.

The lens through which I interpret the world has been shaped by my experiences as a TCK: the trials of being a foreigner, followed by the culture shock of returning to my native country, and feeling foreign there too.

I think every human on this planet has felt alienated at one point or another; for a number of reasons. Our experiences often feel so singular, and we think, “No one could possibly understand or relate to me”.

Through my art, it is my aim to close gaps of understanding that disconnect us and build a community that cultivates curiosity.
